Steve’s talk was largely geared to his audience, PR practitioners, who are grappling with social media and how to utilize these tools. There’s always something to learn, so I’ve noted a few resources that were mentioned. What I found most interesting is how traditional media instructors are adjusting to this wide new world. The answer, it seems: as best they can. A very engaging speaker who’s figuring how to mesh the old and new.

    Indeed, and I think it’s an issue of the evangelists being technical-oriented, so there’s a lot of lingo flying around.

    Thanks for your question!

    The quick answer is: building links, which builds credibility with search engines such as Google. Since link-building is so easy and so easily abused, my take is search engines are beginning to place greater emphasis on user-driven actions, such as time spend on page.

    Thus quality content becomes paramount whether it’s placed on landing pages or blogs or articles. Great content is also more likely to get picked up by Digg and related sharing sites, the benefit of which is pure visibility.

This is great advice and the subject line is very important indeed – can make all the difference in my opinion.  We have had some great results from more “intriguing” subject lines!.  A great campaign should of course combine the best in both design and copy writing and agree that the second element nearly always gets overlooked.  Good copy can also help improve your chances of running the gauntlet of spam filters – always check copy for “watch” words that may leave e-marketing campaigns foul of firewalls and filters.

  34. I didn’t know that some colleges had PR classes? Perhaps its because I never took business classes or related fields when I was in college.

    Actually, you’re more likely to find PR classes in the Communications, Journalism, or Mass Media Departments. My master’s alma mater offers a PR track as well at University of South Carolina Columbia.

    I agree but question whether tech acquisitions are always a wise move: When do they become unwieldy, resisting innovation and squashing others who are innovating? I suppose one answer is sustaining a strong entrepreneurial environment.

    While networking in person, I’ve heard some people say we’re experiencing that now: High unemployment sends the innovators back to their garages.
